Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other nutritional supplements are a cornerstone of the treatment programs at the Whitaker Wellness Institute. However, when you need maximum therapeutic punch, intravenous (IV) drips are the way to go.
Infusing nutrients directly into the bloodstream via a vein has several advantages. First, it bypasses the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and the digestive process, so you avoid the inevitable loss of potency and potential absorption problems characteristic of anything taken by mouth.
Second, much higher concentrations can be administered. For example, the human body sets very tight limits on the amount of oral vitamin C that can be absorbed at any given time. Anything above and beyond 400–500 mg is rapidly flushed out in the urine. Higher dosing is perfectly safe, but large amounts of vitamin C are notorious for causing diarrhea. However, because IVs bypass the GI tract, very high, therapeutic doses may be infused.
The IV department at the Whitaker Wellness Institute, which is overseen by our physicians, registered nurses, and nursing assistants, is nothing like a hospital where most IVs are given. Rather, it is a large, pleasant room, full of comfortable recliners where patients sit during treatments and read, chat with other patients, nap, or simply relax.
IV administration of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients is a powerful, yet overlooked, treatment for numerous health concerns—including anxiety and depression, mental and physical fatigue, drug dependence, and alcohol abuse. At Whitaker Wellness, we treat these and other health challenges with specific, proven nutrient combinations that not only address the underlying pathology but also help correct the nutritional deficiencies that are common in many disease states.
