Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat a broad range of conditions, including pain, anxiety, depression, concentration and attention difficulties, and memory loss. It has also been shown to help with smoking cessation and to benefit patients who are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.
This ancient therapy is based on the concept of Qi, the life force or energy that flows through us all. When Qi is flowing freely, we are healthy. Blockages due to stress, fatigue, poor diet, toxins, and other physical and emotional disturbances results in discomfort or disease.
Qi flows through energy channels in the body called meridians. Along these meridians are hundreds of specific sites near the skin that connect with deeper organs and areas of the body. By stimulating these points, acupuncture restores the flow of Qi and reestablishes balance.
The needles are hair-thin, sterilized, and disposable, and no, it doesn’t hurt. In fact, you can hardly feel the insertion of the needles and, if you do, it’s more of a tingling or mild aching sensation. After the needles have been inserted, you simply relax for 30-60 minutes. Most patients find an acupuncture treatment session profoundly peaceful and relaxing. Some conditions clear up with one or two treatments, but chronic conditions may require multiple sessions.
At Whitaker Wellness, we use acupuncture as an adjunct treatment to other therapies in our Brain Recovery Program, such as IV vitamins and minerals, nutritional supplements, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, neurofeedback, and therapeutic lifestyle changes.
